Episode 1 of the Young Changemakers series in Partnerships with Ashoka’s Your Kids

Megan Warren is a 15-year-old young change-maker.  In this episode, Meagan and her mother Shannon share Meagan’s journey into changemaking.  When Meagan was 11, she noticed that there were a lot of kids who did not have access to books, not even at their schools.  She discovered that “book deserts” communities where those living there have fewer than 10 books in their home, exist all over. She sought to change that and launched Books for Bedtime an organization that has donated more than 83,000 books to kids.

In this episode we discuss:

  • How she came to discover book deserts
  • How her mother helped her pressed through a disappointing event
  • Why in change-making it’s important that the child is leads and not the parent
  • Why it’s important to let kids become aware of the world’s problems
